Well, it's been a busy week or so. My family came to town last weekend and I have some pictures to post of that, but I'll post them later. I finally got Hannah's home school stuff ordered and got it in. So I've been looking over that stuff to get ready. I know it's late for starting school, but keep in mind that we moved when most were starting. I also got her a desk. I looked at all the furniture stores and Target and Walmart, but couldn't find what I was really wanting so I went into a few antique shops this week and found the type of desk that I wanted. The only thing was that it was solid black. But I figured I could refinish it without any problem. So we bought it and brought it home and I set about the daunting task of removing 3 layers of paint. First black, then a creamy white color and lastly green!!! Green that was deep in the grain...so deep that some of it is still there!! But...I did manage to get enough of it off that I was able to just stain and finish it rather than having to paint it. It's not so bad without the bright flash of the camera. I think Hannah would have preferred purple or pink, but I was thinking long term and didn't want to have to redo the desk when she grew out of pink and purple!! Now all we have to do is find a chair that she can sit in and we will officially be able to start her K4 school work! Hopefully by the middle of next week we will start. That's my goal anyway. Other than that we haven't been up to much. Mimi and Papa will be here this weekend and then next weekend we have some friends coming in. Good incentives for keeping my house clean!!!
Here are a couple more pictures of the desk. I feel so accomplished!!! I may change my screen name to furniture refinisher extraordinaire!! In case you were wondering...I'm really proud of Hannah's desk!!!
I finally got around to taking pictures of Hannah in her costume this afternoon. As you can see she is going to be a bumble bee for Halloween. When she modeled her costume for Maw Maw, she ran into the room buzzing and flapping her arms. Then out of nowhere she turned around and wagged her bottom against Maw Maws leg and said, "sting, sting! I stung you Maw Maw!"
When we went to pick out her costume, the store we went to had a whole section of crazy sunglasses. Me and Hannah were just looking around at them and she picked up those glasses and said, "I want these glasses, they will go perfect with my bumble bee costume." And she was right, they look like they were made to go with the costume. At the time I thought oh well whatever, I don't care if she has the glasses. I think they were probably $2 and I thought they might entertain her for a while. But when she got home and put them on with the costume I thought they turned out really cute with it.
I think this one is my favorite. Probably because it is so Hannah. And you can see the stinger that is on her behind!
...just might be one of the greatest inventions ever. Hannah has been playing quietly with it for almost two hours!!! Agh! I don't care if it gets all over the kitchen floor. It is well worth having to sweep the stuff up for her to play with something like that for sooooo long!!! And truthfully she has done a pretty good job of keeping it on the table and in the little mat thing that came with it. I've cleaned the living room and changed the sheets on my bed. I also played with her some. Moon Sand...is a worth while investment!!
When we first moved here someone asked me if we liked sitting on our porch. At the time I thought it rather funny that people actually still do that (probably more people do it than I realize). Where we lived before, no one sat on their porches. In fact most of the homes there have no porches. They may have decks in their backyard, but as far as I know most people never just sit there.
This morning I actaully sat on the back porch for a little while! Granted I was watching Hannah play out there, but I did sit on the porch!!! And I sat there until it really got too hot to sit there anymore. So here are a few pictures of Hannah playing with the kitty and other things while I sat on the porch!!
We went to the beach this afternoon. Partly to wear Hannah out and partly because we've been promising to take her for a while now. Ever since the last time we went, she has been begging to go back. The only part she didn't like was leaving! I was going to post just a few of the pictures I took this afternoon, but I thought y'all might enjoy seeing a slideshow with all of them...well most of them. I left out the ones with white flab showing!! Haha!
I think one of the hardest things to deal with moving to this town has been the alarming amount of bugs that they have here. And I'm not just talking about the number of bugs, but the bugs here are HUGE!! I can't stand it. We finally moved the bug light out of our kitchen window because while it helped with the number of bugs that flew around in our house, they all seemed to migrate in that direction. This would be fine, but even the ones that can't fly are attracted to the light, but they don't fly up there. They just crawl around below the light and thus made a mess on the counter and in my sink. Here is a picture of a spider that Joey saw the other night. To give you an idea of how big the thing was, that is the toe of his shoe there...size 12's!! Now mind you, this is by far not the biggest or the ugliest spider we've seen here. Just the one we happened to get a picture of.
Here is a picture of Hannah with her new friend Figaro. She named him after the cat on Pinnochio. I'm not especially fond of the idea of her having a cat, but this one happened on our doorstep and Hannah claimed it. We managed to take HIM to the vet today. They said they thought he was about 6-8 weeks old and that he is a TOM! Thank goodness, now we don't have to change his name to Figarette. That would be strange!
In other news, since I posted last I ate dove for the very first time in my life the other night. And I should add that I ate dove for the very last time in my life as well. Whether or not it was the dove that made me sick, I don't know. But that food aversion thing...it really works.
Not much else happening here. We live for mailbox checks and Walmart runs. They are exciting!!
I am the stay at home mommy of Hannah. In addition to taking care of her, I take care of her daddy. Joey, my husband is the pastor at our church and that means that I have to be on my best behavior most of the time!! Actually I'm probably not, but I do try so so hard! Especially at church, but that's only because I'm usually sitting on the front pew!
